Daikon Steak with Kewpie Grated Onion Dressing

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 1/3 daikon (about 270g), peeled and cut into 1cm thick rounds
  • Kaiware daikon sprouts – to garnish
  • Salad oil – as needed
  • 3 tablespoons Kewpie Grated Onion Dressing

Instructions

  1. Score both sides of the daikon rounds with shallow crisscross cuts about 5mm apart.
  2. Wrap the daikon in damp paper towel, place in a heat-safe dish, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave at 600W for about 3 minutes 30 seconds.
  3. Heat a frying pan with oil. Lightly sear the daikon until browned, then add the dressing and coat quickly.
  4. Plate the daikon and top with halved kaiware radish sprouts.

Tips

  • Microwaving helps pre-cook the daikon for quicker searing and deeper flavor absorption.
  • Crisscross scoring helps the heat and dressing penetrate the daikon more evenly.
